Angela Elbert, partner and chair of the Insurance Policyholder practice group, was recently quoted in the Law360 Insurance Authority article, “Lost Titan Submersible Raises Insurance Coverage Questions,” The article discusses the catastrophic failure of OceanGate's Titan submersible in the North Atlantic Ocean, resulting in the death of five passengers, and the resulting questions about insurance coverage and compensation. Experts suggest that the company's insurance policies may not fully cover the losses or compensate the victims' families and investors. Elbert anticipates fights over wrongful death claims and waiver application, stating, "These are high net worth individuals that... probably didn't anticipate that they were going to die in this manner." The company's potential insolvency may lead to further lawsuits, and the coverage will depend on the findings of the investigation.
