The Illinois Courts Connect, a monthly newsletter by the Illinois Judicial Branch covering notable media initiatives, addresses and other significant events, recently published its June 2024 edition. One of the significant events mentioned included an educational program titled "Elections, Appointments, Lotteries? A Conversation about Judicial Selection Models" at the last Illinois State Bar Association/Illinois Judges Association Joint Midyear Meeting in December 2023. Litigation Partner Steve Pflaum moderated this session, which discussed how Illinois judges are selected and how this affects judicial independence and the public's confidence in our judiciary. The panelists involved in this session included retired Supreme Court Justice Lloyd Karmeier and retired Appellate Court Justices Carol Pope and Mat Delort.
